Künstler-Statement
Für mich ist Kunst ein Freiheitsakt, durch den ich meine persönlichen und kollektiven Erfahrungen, Erinnerungen und Visionen mithilfe der Sprache der bildenden Künste ausdrücke: Skulpturen, Malerei, Installationen und Performances.
Dabei ist der Leitfaden meiner künstlerischen Projekte, Gespräche und Workshops das Thema der Migrationen, der Verständigung und die Frage nach der persönlichen und kulturellen Identität. Authentische Kunst hinterlässt starke Spuren im persönlichen und sozialen Leben. Kunst ist ein einzigartiges Erlebnis, das zu einer Wahrnehmungsänderung führt. Lebenslauf
Anita Kontrec (geb. 1954 in Zagreb) übersiedelte nach Köln im Jahre 1989, kurz vor dem Ausbruch des Krieges in Kroatien. Da sie selbst ein Kunstnomade ist, kommen in ihren Kunstwerken die Themen der Migration, der kulturellen Identität und der Verständigung sehr häufig vor. Bei ihrer zweiten eigenständigen Ausstellung im Jahre 1992 in Köln, die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Ludwig Forum ins Leben gerufen wurde, widmete sie sich dem Thema der Emigration und der Zerstörung des Kulturerbes als eines Teils der Kriegsstrategie. 1972-1979 – studied literature, sociology and cultural anthropology at the Faculty of Philosophy and attended sculpture classes at Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb

Atelier- und Kunstresidenzen
I am a nomadic artist who has lived and worked in both my home-lands – Germany and Croatia – for the last three decades. During that time I was also working as an artist- in -residence in several other countries – France, UK, USA. Those were the most inspiring experiences – meeting many international artists and curators, teachers and students – I have learned a lot from all of them, which has had a great impact on my perception and practice of art. I am very grateful to all of them!
